LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Brazile gets a big roar from the crowd with: "Poor kids, you got a champion. Kids who live in poverty, you got a champion."

When she met Hillary Clinton, Brazile says, "I was 22, feisty and ready to fight."

Crowd gives loudest cheers since Clinton's nomination as Donna Brazile, interim chairwoman of the convention, walks out.

Jelani Freeman, who grew up in foster care, said he received an internship in Hillary Clinton's Senate office that she set aside for children who had aged out of foster care.

"It's said that love dignifies us" and lifts us up, which is what Freeman said Clinton's love did for him.
