LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Daniele Mellott, who has an adopted child, speaks to Hillary Clinton's work on the 1997 Adoption and Safe Families Act. Mellott said she is not a Democrat, but she's a Clinton supporter.

Actress Elizabeth Banks imitates Donald Trump as her entrance onto the stage.

The next few speakers are advocates for the rights of children and the disabled, and a nonprofit group that raises awareness among youth on gun violence.

Actress Banks says she first learned of Hillary Clinton by attending a rally for Bill Clinton in 1992. She introduces a video about Hillary Clinton's life.

The video is greeted with cheers.
