Thousands of protesters gathered in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, in 2011, to celebrate the resignation of Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak and to call for their own president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to step down. Demonstrations continued in major cities until the end of the year. President Saleh resigned in November but held power until the presidential election in February, 2012 when his vice president won the one-man contest.

Thousands of protesters gathered in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, February 12, to celebrate the resignation of Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak and to call for their own president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to step down.
Demonstrations have continued in major cities since then. President Saleh vows to remain in office until his seven-year term expires in 2013.
