LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Police chief Cameron McLay of Pittsburgh spoke before the mothers. "Every day they (police) go to work not knowing what dangers they might face … particularly in our neighborhoods of color, there is a crisis of trust … public trust is eroding in far too many places."

"We can respect and support our police officers while also pushing for important reforms. We can and must do both," McLay said.

Another mother says Hillary Clinton is not afraid to say the words "Black Lives Matter."
