LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York gets some cheers from the crowd when he talks about keeping the White House and winning back the Senate majority.

Still, the speakers so far have not revved up the crowd.

Schumer is another Democratic speaker who raises the issue that the next president will name at least one person to the Supreme Court and, hopefully, overturn the Citizens United case, which allows corporations and unions to spend unlimited sums on political campaigns.

As he leaves the stage, Schumer yells out "I love you, New York" to delegates at the side of the stage.
