LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, the minority leader in the U.S. House, is on stage with all the women members of the House.

Pelosi made history herself, becoming the first woman to hold the position of Speaker of the House, from 2007-2011.

Pelosi says, "When women succeed, America succeeds."
