LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

VOA's Katherine Gypson says there's a sense of joy among the delegates after Hillary Clinton becomes party nominee.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe tells the delegates they'll be able to tell people "they were there" when the first woman was nominated as a presidential nominee.
