LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon speaks for the delegation, which casts 38 votes for Sanders and 34 votes for Clinton.

Oklahoma has a 98-year-old woman, who said she thought she would never see a woman president, help cast the state delegation's votes. Delegates cast 22 votes for Sanders and 20 votes for Clinton.

Ohio, a battleground state in nearly every election and where the Republican National Convention was held last week, casts 98 votes for Hillary Clinton and 62 votes for Bernie Sanders.
