LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Georgia, casting itself as the next battleground state, 87 votes for Clinton and 29 votes for Sanders.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will speak this evening after 10pm on behalf of his wife.

For the roll call, each state introduces and shares a few facts and demographics about themselves before announcing how many of their delegates are for each candidate.

Florida, the Sunshine State and the swing state that went blue (voted Democrat) for President Obama, casts 163 votes for Hillary Clinton and 72 votes for Bernie Sanders.
