The Republican National Convention started shortly after 12 p.m. EDT (1600 UTC) in Cleveland on Monday. Long lines for security developed as delegates and media attempted to enter the Quicken Loans Arena and Cleveland Convention Center. Delegates in their pro-party clothing also began arriving at the arena.
